Nan Chiau High School (NCHS) is a government-aided co-educational institution in Sengkang, Singapore, connected with the Singapore Hokkien Huay Kuan. It provides a four-year Express (Special) secondary education program. Founded in 1947, the university operates under the Special Assistance Plan (SAP), to develop bilingual and bi-cultural scholars who are fluent in Chinese. Affirmed as the North Zone Centre of Excellence for Chinese Language, the school is noted for its strong Chinese basis in terms of language teaching and propagation of heritage and culture that extends beyond the classroom. Mr. Tan Kah Kee, a Chinese businessman, community leader, and philanthropist, founded Nan Chiau Teachers' Training College in 1941 to meet the educational requirements of the local community. The first school site was built using homes provided by Mr. Lee Kong Chian on a tract of land in River Valley. Dalforce, a Chinese volunteer army founded just before the Japanese invasion in 1942, used the campus as a base and training camp. Under an arrangement with the Singapore Land Authority, Nan Chiau High School relocated to Sengkang New Town in 2000. The elementary part split off to become Nan Chiau Elementary School, which moved to 50 Anchorvale Link.[24] Nan Chiau High School was also named the highest value-added school in Singapore in the Ministry of Education's 1999 rating of Special/Express schools.
