Northfield Mount Hermon (NMH) has a rich history rooted in the merger of two distinguished New England preparatory schools: Northfield School for Girls and Mount Hermon School. Founded in 1879 by evangelist Dwight L. Moody, Northfield School for Girls provided a progressive education emphasizing academics, spirituality, and social responsibility for young women. Meanwhile, Mount Hermon School, established in 1881 by evangelist D.L. Moody and businessman Joseph E. Moody, offered a rigorous academic program and a strong emphasis on Christian values for young men. The two schools operated independently until they merged in 1971 to form Northfield Mount Hermon, a coeducational institution dedicated to academic excellence, character development, and global engagement. Since then, NMH has evolved into a renowned boarding and day school known for its innovative curriculum, diverse community, and commitment to fostering ethical leadership and social justice.
