School History & Details

Sir William Laxton, Lord Mayor of London endowed a "Free Grammar School" in Oundle in 1556. Laxton Grammar School steadily grew in size and prestige throughout the succeeding decades to the point that by the middle of the nineteenth century, many students had been sent there from all across the nation to attend school. The Grocers decided to split the school into Laxton Grammar School and Oundle School in 1876. When Oundle began allowing girls to enrol, it marked a significant advancement. Oundle School and Laxton School were once again combined as a single educational institution in 2000. This decision was made by the school's governing council.
