Papakura Central School, with roots dating back to the 1850s, began in a small building near the present Methodist Church. The old Central School, erected in 1876 for 305 pounds, still stands and serves various purposes today. Over the years, expansions accommodated a growing population, including a separate Infant Department in 1924. In 1948, it became the Normal School linked to Ardmore Teachers’ College until a new Papakura North School was established. The school, with a rich history and early plans for redevelopment in 1937, reflects its enduring role in the community.
