One of the oldest schools in New Zealand is Papatoetoe Central School, which first opened its doors in 1857. Since 1872, it has stood as it does now, in the heart of Papatoetoe. The neighborhood surrounding Papatoetoe Central School is well-established, and many of the current parents and caretakers were formerly students there. 59% of the students at the school are Indian, 19% are Pasifika, 9% are Maori, 11% are Asian, 1.5% are NZ European, and the remaining 0.5% are from other communities. For a while now, there have been more kids in the larger Papatoetoe community who want to attend Papatoetoe Central School than the facilities can hold. The school developed a home zone in 1980, and with the 1989 Act, it was once again adopted as an enrollment policy and scheme.
Pupils are courteous, respectful, and rational while they persevere, push themselves, and succeed. Along with parents and whānau, the school formed its vision and mission to represent the goals of the local community. Every day, the school works to put these aspirations into practice!
