School History & Details

On May 1st, 1873, Parnell District School became one of the first eight schools to fall under the purview of the Auckland Education Board. At this point, due to the Auckland Education Act of 1872, school attendance was required for all students aged 7 to 12. Due to enrollment increase since 1993 and smaller class sizes, new classrooms, a hall, and an administration building were finished in 1996–1997. The school library opened in 2002. 2008 saw a school gala held by Parnell District School to commemorate the school's 135th birthday and 75 years of existence at the current St. Stephens location.

For the majority of its students, Papatoetoe Central School is producing fair and outstanding results in reading and arithmetic. Over the last three years, achievement metrics have shown a positive rising trend. When compared to the NZC expectations, the majority of students perform at the right level.
