On May 1st, 1873, Parnell District School became one of the first eight schools to fall under the purview of the Auckland Education Board. At this point, due to the Auckland Education Act of 1872, school attendance was required for all students aged 7 to 12. Due to enrollment increase since 1993 and smaller class sizes, new classrooms, a hall, and an administration building were finished in 1996–1997. The school library opened in 2002. 2008 saw a school gala held by Parnell District School to commemorate the school's 135th birthday and 75 years of existence at the current St. Stephens location.
Our goal at Parnell District School is to develop outstanding people. We collaborated with our community to develop this idea. We think that for our students to succeed in life, they should excel intellectually and be admirable individuals who use their abilities to improve the world. Our students not only excel academically but also embody our core values—Kaitiakitanga, Innovation, and Truth—daily.
