Established in 1952 as Methodist Ladies’ College South Perth, the school opened on Angelo Street, South Perth, opposite the Perth Zoo, and moved to its current location in Como in 1971. It was originally a branch of the former Claremont Girls’ College (1907) but now operates independently. The school educates students from Pre-Kindergarten through to Year 12. The Methodist Ladies’ college, South Perth, was awarded to Uniting Church Australia in 1977 following Church Union. The school’s new name was derived from the former Colwyn Bay Girls’ College in North Wales, founded by the Methodist church in 1880 for the education of girls with special needs. The name Penrhos comes from the Welsh word meaning “peak of the Moor”.
