The Presbyterian Synod first proposed the idea of founding a Christian secondary school in 1947. Although there was no land to establish the school on and no money to use, the Synod was enthusiastic about the idea. Presbyterian High School would not exist today if it weren't for the dogged perseverance and steadfast faith of our founding father, Reverend Lee Huai Kwang. Reverend Lee had a strong belief in the purpose of education as a social good. In 1961, Reverend Lee served as both the Ming Sin Primary School's head teacher and the pastor of Bethel Presbyterian Church. His request that Li Sun High School use the facilities from Ming Sin Primary School was driven by his religious convictions. Li Sun High School was founded based on his pledge and opened its doors to its first class of 150 pupils in 1965 at its Jalan Lateh campus off Upper Serangoon Road. This was a turning point in the history of the school.
