Qatar International School (QIS) was founded in 1997 by Sheikh Ali bin Ahmed bin Thani Al Thani and the first principal, Mrs. Joyce Griffin. QIS was the first British international school in Qatar to offer the renowned British curriculum, followed by IGCSE and A-level in the sixth form. It is a co-educational school that moved from its previous location to Al Dafna (current location) in 2001. This 50-year-old school has now become one of the largest and most prestigious schools in Qatar. The school currently houses 2,000 students belonging to 70 different nationalities. In 2015, the school received the highest rating from the Qatar National Schools Accreditation Programme.
