School History & Details

On April 17, 2005, Peter Beattie, the then Premier of Queensland, announced the establishment of the Queensland Academies, designed as an innovative educational program for high-achieving high school students. The Queensland Academy for Health Sciences (QAHS) officially commenced operations on Tuesday, January 29, 2008, coinciding with the start of the Australian school year. The following day, an Official Opening Ceremony took place in the school's Lecture Theatre, attended by the founding principal Leanne Nixon, the founding deputy principal Jane Sleeman, and notable guests, including the then Queensland Premier Anna Bligh and Education Minister Rod Welford.
