Sir John Port of Etwall left money for a grammar school at Etwall or Repton in his will in 1557, with the stipulation that the students pray for the souls of his family every day. King James I issues the School with a charter for incorporation. There were 300 students enrolled in the school at this time, many of whom boarded in the Priory and lived as "Tablers" in the village. Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the Duke of Edinburgh paid a visit to Repton School in 1957 as part of the school's quarter-century celebrations. With the inauguration of Repton Dubai, Repton becomes one of the first British institutions to open a location abroad. Three additional Repton Schools opened in the UAE during the course of the following four years.
The core values of the Repton School are as follows:
RESPECT: Based on a profound respect for one another's shared humanity.
WHOLENESS - The capacity of an individual to pursue moral, intellectual, social, and physical goals.
TRUTH: The endpoint of a lifelong learning process.
EXCELLENCE: is a goal for everyone, in all endeavours, both solo and group.
