The Royal High School Bath, which is part of the Girls' Day School Trust, has a long history dating back to the late 19th century. In 1875, the Girls' Public Day School Company, now known as the Girls' Day School Trust, established the Bath High School for Girls. From 1946 to 1976, it operated as a direct grant grammar school. In 1998, a merger between Bath High School (day) and the Royal School (day and boarding), which was founded in 1864, led to the creation of the Royal High School Bath. This made it the sole member of the Girls' Day School Trust to offer boarding facilities. Presently, the Prep School primarily operates from Cranwell House, while the Senior School and the sixth form students utilize the main school building and the Winfield centre, both of which are located on Lansdown Road.
