The Rutgers Preparatory School in Somerset, New Jersey is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools (MSCHE). The MSCHE is a voluntary, non-governmental organization that promotes standards of excellence in higher education. The school is also recognized by the National Blue Ribbon School Award of Excellence, which was awarded to it in 1992 by the United States Department of Education.

In 2012, RPS received its most recent accreditation from the New Jersey Association of Independent Schools (NJAIS), which provides a standards-based accreditation program for each member school every ten years. The accreditation process includes trained peer evaluators from other independent schools in New Jersey and/or other states.

In New Jersey, RPS is the only school to be a member of the Council of International Schools (CISs) and in the world is also the only high school to be granted Non-governmental Organization (NGO) status by the United Nations, etc.
