School History & Details

Ruthin School formed its existence in 1284 when Edward 1 built a castle which was later assimilated by St Peter's Church. In 1547, Elizabeth I refounded Ruthin School as a center of academic excellence in North Wales. In the early 1890s, the school was honored by the presence of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, and King Charles also visited the school. In 1893, the main school building was built and was designed by Architect John Douglas. As time passes the school is associated with a variety of recognized national organizations so that the school can maintain the highest standards and provide students with a quality education.

Achievements

The school is proud of its academic achievements. The academic results are consistently some of the best in the UK. The school has been ranked 36th for A-level results in the year 2023. It has been ranked in the ISC League table which makes Ruthin School the highest-ranked independent school across North Whales, Wirral, and Cheshire.

The school has a team of alumni who are the part of Old Ruthinian Association (ORA) alumni association. The school is always delighted to hear of the progress of its former students. Students are studying in Cambridge University, Oxford University, University College London, The London School of Economics, and London Imperial. In 2023, around 80% of the students Are going to study at Russell Group University.
