The Boca Raton region was a part of the Archdiocese of Miami in 1980, when Pope John Paul II High School was opened. The Carmelites of the New York Province were invited by Miami Archbishop Edward McCarthy to staff and run the high school. The joint efforts of fourteen parishes in the counties of north Broward and south Palm Beach provided the majority of the funding for this new school.
In 1982, sisters from the Adrian Dominican community established their long-term relationship with Pope. They assisted in educating the Class of 1983, who were the school's first graduates. Over 5,600 young men and women have graduated from Pope since then. The majority have pursued higher education at the collegiate and beyond levels.
The School began a new chapter in August 2015 when it renamed itself to more accurately represent its evolving position in the community and the stature of its namesake. Bishop Barbarito reopened the institution as Saint John Paul II Academy on August 31, 2015. Three of Saint John Paul II's passions were represented by the school's new colors: blue for his contemplative devotion to the Blessed Mother, gold for his tenure as Pope, and black for his time as a priest.
We aim to achieve the superiority of spirit, intelligence, and fervor exhibited by John Baptist De La Salle in all our endeavors. Live forever in our hearts, Jesus!
While welcoming students of various beliefs and backgrounds, committed instructors and staff instill the Gospel ideals of respect, justice, peace, responsibility, and compassion for the poor.
