Application Requirements

The Sandspit Road School Enrolment Scheme:-

Home zone

Within the home, all students who live shall be entitled to enroll at the school.

Each year, enrolment applications in the following year from in-zone students by date, will be sought that will be published in a daily or community newspaper circulating in the area served by the school. To assess the number of places this will enable the board that to students can be made available who live outside the home zone etc.

Out-of-zone enrolments

Each year the number of places the board will determine that in the following year are likely to be available for the enrolment of students who live outside the home zone. By notice the board will publish this information in a daily or community newspaper circulating in the area served by the school. How applications are to be made is what the notice will indicate and will specify a date by which all applications must be received.

  • In the following order of priority the applications for enrolment will be processed:
  • a. First priority At this school this priority category is not applicable because the school does not run special program approved by the Secretary.
  • b. To applicants who are siblings of current students the Second priority must be given.
  • c. To applicants who are siblings of former students the Third priority must be given.
  • d. To any applicant who is a child of a former student of the school the Fourth priority must be given.
  • e. To any applicant who is either a child of a member of the board of the school or a child of an employee of the board of the school the Fifth priority must be given.
  • f. To all other applicants the Sixth priority must be given.
  • If there are more applicants in priority groups (b) to (f) than there are places available, places must be allocated in priority order until a category is reached where in that category the number of spaces available is insufficient to accommodate the number of eligible students. Selection within that priority group must be by ballot conducted in accordance with instructions issued by the Secretary under Section 11G(1) of the Education Act 1989. By notice the parents will be informed of the date of any ballot in a daily or community newspaper circulating in the area served by the school. The second or third priority status the applicants seeking may be required to give proof of a sibling relationship.
  • Note:- A cohort entry the Sandspit Road School has adopted, to start school in cohorts the new entrants are able but only after they have turned five. Two entry points per term there are, one on the first day of term, and one at a mid-point during a term etc.
