School History & Details

The goal of the Scarborough College Company was to establish a boarding school for boys.  and spread the word about a boys' school on the Yorkshire Coast where students could get ready for college, for jobs in the sciences and in business while still enjoying life by the sea.  Alderman George Lord Beeforth laid the cornerstone for Scarborough College, and the school's doors officially opened on September 18, 1901. The College allowed two girls to enroll in 1972 which marked a historic shift and changed this historically all-boys school into the coeducational institution it is today.  In the following years, the number of females climbed significantly, and the school maintained a close to 50/50 mix between boys and girls.
