ISSH Special Education Needs (SEN) Services provide case management and referrals for students with special educational or other needs. ISSH works closely with community agencies and professionals of all fields to provide the necessary support for students and where required for the parents and teachers. When needed, as Individual Educational Plans (IEP), and behaviour plans are implemented with the aim to optimise the student’s learning and school experience. To support students who need regular one-to-one support, we offer learning support services inside and outside the classroom at an extra cost.

Every year we produce a musical in which students can act, sign, dance or perform musically, depending on their individual talents. Auditions are held at the beginning of the school year and then students prepare for the show through a theatre club.

With the IB Diploma, universities in 141 countries including Switzerland and Germany can be attended. For information on specific admission requirements in terms of grades and subject combinations, please refer to the IB website. The IB works closely with universities in all parts of the world to extend this recognition even further. To this end, university admissions offices and members of the educational authorities have direct online access to all curricula and previous examinations. The ISSH supports students in their choice of university and course of study and helps to prepare all relevant application documents for the universities of choice. We conduct information events or accompany students to events where universities present themselves to potential future students.

With the international curriculum of the International Baccalaureate Organisation, the youngest students at the ISSH receive holistic support. In addition to teaching the primary school curriculum, the focus is on general knowledge, character building and the teaching of values. Learning Languages in the natural environment is done in a inquiry-based. Early bilingualism is a highly welcome additional benefit of an international education.

Many children of primary school age already have access to their parents’ computer. We introduce our students to IT at an appropriate age, so that they gradually get familiar with this powerful tool. By the end of their Primary Years our students can confidently research information on the internet, use scanners, video and digital cameras. They can also use word processing, data handling, presentation and publishing programmes with ease. In today’s world IT skills are essential, but at ISSH we also value books and reference books for research work, hand-written pieces of work, posters with hand-painted illustrations or hand-made books.

The ISSH provides a safe and caring environment for all community members. Building up an awareness for safety and security is part of our everyday interaction with the students and all staff. According to the ISSH behaviour policy we expect students and staff to “always check that what they themselves or what others do is safe”. This safety awareness is being supported through our Programme of Inquiry and through the Health and Safety Education which is part of the P.E. curriculum.
