Sir Edmund Hillary Collegiate was founded in 2001 by its namesake and was opened in 2004. On campus, there are three distinct levels of learning, including junior, middle, and high school, which provide a "complete education experience" while being controlled by a single board of trustees. This implies that large families pass through the school, making it easier for whanau (extended family or community) to bring their tamariki (children) to different age groups.
