The South Island School (SIS) was established in 1977 and is a private international school founded by the English Schools Foundation of Hong Kong, located at 50 Nam Fung Road, Aberdeen, Hong Kong, with about 1,400 students enrolled and 107 teachers. From diverse backgrounds, the students come, with over 38 nationalities represented.

SIS offers the GCSE/IGCSE syllabus, IB Diploma Program, IB Career-related Program, and the BTEC qualification and is one of the three ESF secondary schools on Hong Kong Island.

To make a difference and hone every child’s unique talents and potential the school follows a philosophy. With a positive and determined mindset, the students grow where to themselves and others in their community they can make a real difference. To promote Well-Being, Learning, Global Citizenship, and Sustainability, through all aspects of the school is the South Island School’s Mission. SIS expects their staff, students, and community to embed their Mission objectives within everything they do, to achieve the ESF Vision for every student to be the best that they can be as they strive.

The South Island School has students who take a variety of examinations, including:- 1. IGCSE/GCSE: In 2022, 61% of students achieved A*-A grades, and 94% of all grades were A*-C. 2. IB: In 2022, 98% of students passed, and the average Diploma score was 37.1 points, which is 4.1 points above the world average. 3. IB Diploma: In 2020, 22 students achieved a perfect score of 45 points. Some other academic achievements of the SIS include:- 4. 35% of students achieved 40 points or higher. 5. Amaanat Rekhi, Camille Phieu, and Eldon Tse won the “Top 50 award (Junior Section)” in the 2021 MI Young Writers Award, etc.

Non-Academic Achievements

The South Island School has many non-academic achievements:- 1. Sports: The school has a netball team that won the Netfest tournament and had a 100% win record in their league. The school also has a rugby team that won the Kim Lam Cup. 2. Debate: The school has won the Joint Schools competition four times and the Hong Kong Standard contest five times. 3. Model UNs and Congresses: The school has contributed to international Model UNs and Congresses. 4. Extracurricular activities: The school offers drama and music programs that allow students to develop creativity and public performance. 5. Making a Difference (MaD) week: The school organizes an annual week where students undertake service and action projects. The school also has an Advanced Diploma Program a sister school partnership etc.

Alia Eyres: Graduated from ESF Bradbury School and South Island School. 2. Cathy Lee: Graduated from ESF South Island School. 3. Da Suk: Studied at SIS from 2000 to 2003. 4.
