St Augustine's College was given its name to honor the Augustinian order of priests and their contributions. The College consists of four House teams, namely Jagera, Josey, MacKillop, and Cascia. Jagera and Josey are named after significant individuals or places in our history, while MacKillop is named after Australia's first saint and the founder of St Francis Xavier Primary school in nearby Goodna. Cascia, on the other hand, is named after the esteemed Augustinian saint, St Rita of Cascia. The College's Foundation Principal, Leon Capra, was appointed in April 2002, followed by the appointment of Peter O'Connor as the Head of Secondary in June of the same year. By December 2002, a total of twenty-six staff members, including full-time and part-time teachers, administrative staff, school officers, and grounds staff, were hired. The staff began moving into the new facilities on January 8, 2003, and the College officially commenced its operations on January 28 with an initial enrollment of 170 students. This included 35 Year 8 students, 100 students from Years 1 to 5, and 35 preschool students. The College received a blessing from the Most Rev Archbishop John Bathersby, the Archbishop of Brisbane, on August 31, 2003. It was then officially inaugurated by the Honourable Anna Bligh, the former Premier of Queensland and the State Minister for Education at that time, along with Senator Santo Santoro, the Senator for Queensland, on the same day. The College's site was master planned with seven stages, with the final stage being completed in 2011. In 2010, the College also received significant one-time funding from the Federal Government's Building the Education Revolution program. This allowed for the construction of the Augustine Centre, as well as the completion of two large covered assembly areas and shade structures on the oval and bus bay.
