After the Second World War, a plan to build bridges between British and European students resulted in the founding of the school in 1953 by Anne Dreydel OBE and Pamela Morris. Its goal is to improve global knowledge and understanding. The Oxford English Centre for Foreign Students was the original name; St Clare's Hall and St Clare's, Oxford followed.
