Located in Cottonera, St Edward's College, Malta is a private, autonomous school for boys that offers optional boarding. There are just around 700 students, ages 5 to 18, enrolled. It was established in 1929 because of a private donation made by Baroness Strickland, Countess della Catena. The school was constructed on the site of a former Knights of Malta fort; the bastion walls of the fort still encircle the back of the building. Originally designed to educate the boys of Maltese aristocracy and British military officers stationed in Malta, the institution was modeled after the principles and values of British public schools.
Students at St. Edward's College are taught the virtues of empathy, compassion, and global citizenship, and they are encouraged to use their special talents to advance society.
