When a mother approached Miss Phyllis Burden in 1940 about tutoring her daughter, Miss Burden advised the mother that she needed to locate more students. On September 23, 1941, St. Francis School was established in the Old Pewsey Rectory with only four students. As enrollment grew, the school relocated to more larger quarters in Pewsey High Street. The school expanded and relocated to the current location, Haybrook House, in 1984. A charity trust was established, and in 1990 it bought Travancore House, the neighbouring house. The Kennet and Avon Canal borders the school's seventeen acres of beautiful Wiltshire scenery in the Pewsey Vale to the north.
The mission of St. Francis School is to inspire and educate young people to become capable, kind, and compassionate adults who contribute positively to society. Through the instruction of fundamental knowledge and our core competencies of collaboration, leadership, independence, challenge, and kindness, students are prepared for their future lives in a constantly changing world.
