School History & Details

St John's College School has a long and fascinating history, with origins dating back to 1661. At this time, a man named Mr. Loosemore was appointed as the organist and to oversee the education of choristers. For over a century, the school operated in this way, but in 1819 an exciting new development took place. St John's College and Trinity College entered into an agreement to share resources, including the choir, organist, and schoolmaster. This partnership lasted until 1856 when St John's College decided to once again establish its own school. The new school was located in All Saint's Passage and later moved to Bridge Street. Throughout its history, St John's College School has continued to evolve and grow. In 1875, the school began admitting boys who were not choristers or probationers, further expanding the reach and impact of this prestigious institution. Today, St John's College School remains a beloved and respected part of the Cambridge community, serving as a beacon of excellence in education and a proud legacy of its rich and storied past.
