School History & Details

Founded by the Mercy Sisters in 1893, St. Leo's Catholic School in Devonport is the second oldest in the area. Starting with two sisters, the school expanded in 1896, and its current building, constructed in 1898, remains the parish hall. Originally divided into fee-paying and parish sections, it became solely a parish school in 1915. Despite the closure of the convent in 2002, the school maintains a strong association with the Sisters and upholds Mercy Values. Known for academic excellence and a strong Catholic community, St. Leo's attracts students from across the Devonport Isthmus.
