Established in 1839, St Michael’s holds the distinction of being the oldest continuously operating Lutheran school in Australia. For over 180 years, we have provided quality education to the children of the Adelaide Hills. The school was founded to assist the community of migrants who escaped religious persecution and settled in the region. These early settlers established the institution to ensure their children were educated in the Lutheran faith, their German heritage, and to receive a high standard of education. This dedication to community and learning continues to be a hallmark of our institution today. The school was temporarily closed by an Act of Parliament in 1917 during the First World War, reopening in 1946. Since that time, significant building projects and renovations have been undertaken to maintain the highest standards of educational facilities. Throughout the years, St Michael’s has upheld its fundamental value of imparting the Christian faith, offering Christ-centered, quality education to all members of the Adelaide Hills community, irrespective of their religious beliefs.
