School History & Details

The Good Samaritan Sisters opened a St Scholastica’s College on Pitt Street in Sydney in 1878. The school started preparing pupils for university exams in 1881. In 1901, the school relocated to Glebe Point from Pitt Street, which was later developed into Central Railway Station. The Pitt Street site still features the original school gates. The land at Glebe Point was once known as Toxteth Park Estate and belonged to George Wigram Allen. The original house is now occupied by the Good Samaritan Congregational Centre. Cardinal Moran lay the cornerstone for the new school at Glebe Point on October 16, 1901.

    School Values

  • Christian faith
  • St Scholastica’s college's core values are spiritual and are derived from the Benedictine tradition, which upholds and nurtures the human spirit. The cornerstones of college life are the life of Christ, the Good Samaritan narrative, and Benedictinian principles. These are not abstract ideas, and students are inspired by their faith to look for purpose in life and develop a solid moral foundation. Their motto is PAX, which stands for Peace. They strive to educate young women who, by their example, contribute to the creation of tolerant, peaceful, and giving societies. Peace is a universal aspiration.
