Daniel Stewart's College and Melville College merged to form Daniel Stewart's and Melville College in 1972, giving rise to Stewart's Melville College. The junior schools for boys and girls officially became coed in 1978 and were renamed The Combined Junior School of The Mary Erskine School and Stewart's Melville College.
