Stonar School, established in 1895, has a rich history that spans over a century. The school began as a girls' school at Stour House in Sandwich, Kent, before moving to Stonar House, a larger property in the same town. The school remained at this location until 1939 when it was forced to relocate to Cottles House due to the requisition of the Sandwich premises by the Ministry of Defence. In 2013, the school was acquired by Globeducate, a subsidiary of American private equity firm Providence Equity. Globeducate operates over 50 schools in several countries, and its acquisition of Stonar School has allowed for even greater opportunities for growth and innovation. Despite its many changes and developments, Stonar School remains committed to its core values of academic excellence, creativity, and character development. From its humble beginnings as a girls' school to its position as a leading coeducational institution today, Stonar School has a long and proud history of providing exceptional education to students from around the world.
At Stonar School values are centered on a holistic approach to education that fosters growth, nurtures independence, and encourages personal responsibility. The values are based on the following key principles:
1. Respect - They believe in respecting each individual, regardless of their background, ethnicity, religion, or gender.
2. Compassion - They recognize the importance of kindness and empathy in building positive relationships, both in and out of the classroom.
3. Excellence - They encourage our students to strive for excellence in all that they do, and to take pride in their achievements.
4. Community - They are committed to building a strong sense of community among our students, parents, staff, and wider community.
5. Diversity - They embrace diversity and believe in promoting understanding and acceptance of different cultures and perspectives.
At Stonar School, these values guide students in everything they do, from providing a supportive and inclusive learning environment to helping students develop the skills they need to thrive in an ever-changing world. They believe that by instilling these values in students, they can help them become compassionate, responsible, and well-rounded individuals who are equipped to succeed in life.
