State-run Tangaroa College is a coeducational secondary school that accepts students in grades nine through thirteen. The school is around 25 kilometers from Auckland's city center, in the Manukau City neighborhood of Otara. In 1976, the College opened for business. From a roll of 450 students in 2002 to a roll of 1050 students in 2011, it expanded quickly. This multiethnic institution has 80% of its student body from the Pacific Islands (45% Samoan, 21% Cook Island Maori, 14% Tongan), 12% Maori, 2% Indian, and 6% Other. The number of students enrolled in the school is still close to 1050, which is our target upper limit because this number allows us to offer a variety of curriculum alternatives and have a laser-like focus on helping students meet their learning objectives.
Students dedicated to achieving personal success in all endeavors will be fostered by us.
We shall encourage decency.
Innovative, introspective, and daring teaching and learning practices will be strongly promoted.
We shall establish and preserve productive working relationships with everyone engaged in our students' education.
In our school's national and international communities, we shall promote an appreciation of variety.
