The school was founded in 1925 by Anne Griffith-Jones. It is a member of the Association Montessori Internationale (AMI), the world's leading organization for Montessori education.

In 2022, Tanglin Trust School students won over 100 awards in international competitions, including the World Scholar's Cup, the International Mathematical Olympiad, and the International Linguistics Olympiad.
