The Hockaday School is an independent, secular, college preparatory day school for girls in Dallas, Texas, USA. The boarding school was for girls in grades 8-12, while the day school served students in pre-kindergarten through grade 12. The Hockaday School is accredited by the Independent Schools Association of the Southwest. Ela Hockaday created the school in 1913 in response to a group of Dallas businessmen's desire to establish an intellectual institution for their girls that was comparable to their sons' educational experiences. She established a junior college in 1931, which ran until 1951. The first class included only ten pupils. Sarah Trent was one of the founding teachers at the school and influenced its development. Ela Hockaday lived at the school on the block between 5601 Bonita and 2407 Greenville Avenue in Dallas during the 1940 census.
