The Punjab Public School has been a member of the IPSC since its foundation. Originally known as Sainik School, it was a residential school for males only, with 550 hostel spaces, including a few day scholar girls and staff children. The school was founded in 1960 with the goal of providing quality public school education to deserving children of ex-servicemen, serving members of the armed forces, and civilians. Sardar Partap Singh Kairon, Punjab's Chief Minister at the time, was the driving force behind the school's founding. Dr Rajendra Prasad, India's President, formally inaugurated the institution in April 1961.
