Tower College derived its name from the primary school building, which used to be a private home called The Tower, located on Mill Lane, Rainhill near Prescot, Merseyside. This structure, constructed in 1880, showcases the free Jacobethan style, originally for the Henry Baxter family. The building exterior is adorned with parapets, balustrades, and tall Elizabethan-style chimneys. Inside, it features a grand stair hall with stained glass windows and several rooms with decorative ceilings and Jacobean-style wooden paneling. During World War I, The Tower served as a war hospital. An assessment for the building's listing status was conducted in 2006, but it didn't qualify due to extensive alterations to original features following its usage as a hospital and school. The Tower was purchased by Charles and Muriel Oxley in 1948, marking the establishment of Tower College. In the subsequent years, Oxley also set up two other institutions, Scarisbrick Hall School in 1964, and Hamilton College in 1983. After the demise of Charles and Muriel Oxley, their daughter Rachel Oxley took over as the principal. As of 2022, the position is held by Andrea Bingley.
