As the first R–12 Lutheran school to be founded in South Australia in 2001, Unity College was founded on the longstanding reputation of the Murray Bridge Lutheran School, which is currently the location of the junior school. In 1978, the Murray Bridge Lutheran School welcomed 135 pupils and 5 faculty members. As the community grew steadily, it became apparent that Murray Bridge needed a Lutheran Secondary College. In 1995, an application to expand to Year 10 was granted. In 1997, the Murray Bridge Lutheran School officially changed its name to Unity College and started Year 8. Unity's first class of Year 12 graduates was awarded in 2001 after receiving approval in 1999 to extend to Years 11 and 12. Unity College commemorated 40 years in 2018
