At the pre-university level open to all nationalities

To students of all nationalities, the UWC Adriatic is open who in a multicultural, values-based environment are looking for a pre-university education.

To the United World Colleges students are selected through a network of National Committees across the world based on personal merit and potential. Gender, race, religion, politics, and ability to pay are irrelevant in the selection process. With varying levels of scholarship support the majority of students attend UWC, depending on their personal needs. The National Committees as part of the selection process allocate these.

UWC Adriatic scholarships are provided by: Italian Regions, the Italian Government, UWC National Committees, UWC alumni, and corporate and private donors.

Generally, a bright 16 or 17-year-old a suitable applicant is who is doing well academically and has a good range of interests. The ability to mix with others is what the important attributes include as being tolerant of fundamentally different opinions and attitudes. Experience has shown that successful students are those who come with a clear awareness of the school values and contribute to a strong personal commitment. An environment the College provides in which students who are socially mature and morally responsible can thrive and fulfill their potential.

• Italian Applicants
• For the selection procedure the Italian students applying that meet the requirements of the Bando di concorso (call for applications) to the interregional pre-selections in the city nearest their home are invited. In convenient locations throughout Italy the pre-selections are organized; they are usually held in Milan, Rome, Cagliari, and Duino, but according to the number of applications received and their geographical distribution this may change.
• Although the exact number varies, for Italian selections each year approximately 500 students apply. Those who qualify (roughly 60 candidates) to take part in the final phase of the selection procedure are then invited, the national selection, held in Duino.
• The selections consist of an individual interview, a written test (including exercises focused on linguistic aptitude, mathematics, and general knowledge) and group activities (role, play, discussions, workshops). At evaluating candidates' general knowledge, interests, skills, motivation, personality, and alignment with the UWC values all activities are aimed.
• In each part of the selection, to candidates the percentage points are awarded according to their performance. On the basis of the overall score accumulated by each candidate the scholarships are then distributed.
• At all UWC schools and colleges although lessons are held in English and previous knowledge of the language is an advantage, for the selection fluency is not a requirement. It is expected that before beginning their first year the scholarship winners not fluent in English study over the summer. Once living in the college environment, rapid progress the motivated students generally make.
• Foreign Applicants
• Foreign applicants residing in Italy
• Italian citizenship the students who do not have may participate in the Italian selections (selections organized by the Italian National Committee) in Italy if they reside and for at least two years have attended a legally-recognized Italian secondary school. The Bando di Concorso (call for applications) requirements they must also fulfill. In Italian selections are held and in autumn each year with a deadline set for November the call for applications generally goes out.
• Foreign applicants residing outside Italy
• Outside of Italy the Non-Italian students residing must apply through the UWC National Committee of their home country.
• Children of staff members
• UWC Adriatic the children of staff members aged 16 to 19 can attend as non-residential students and at the end of their two years at the College sit for the IB exams. Please note that there will be a selection process.
• Selection Procedures
• Across countries the application process varies to ensure that to the local culture and education system it is applicable and relevant. The National Committee of your country will be looking for students who to benefit from a UWC experience have the potential.
• Usually there is a written application and some form of interview, but to take part in group activities and/or community service you may also be asked, sit for an examination or even in a camping weekend take part.

• In Duino the last week of August the students are expected. By National Committees applications dates are set and from country to country vary, so for more information about specific dates please contact the UWC National Committee in your country.
