Vikas Vidyalaya was founded in Ranchi (Jharkhand) by the Manav Vikas Vidyalaya Trust from Kolkata. The school educates pupils in a healthy environment while also promoting overall personality development. The school is located on an estate of over 200 acres, with the school complex taking up more than 50 acres. Dr. Rajendra Prasad, the President of the Indian Union, inaugurated it on March 8, 1953. Vikas Vidyalaya was founded on the notion of combining the finest of the East and the best of the West within the parameters of the Public School Education System. The concept of public schools originated in India a few years before independence, when the Indian Public Schools Conference was created in 1939 at the initiative of a few forward-thinking Headmasters, including Mr. Pearce. Shri Rameshwar Lalji Nopany, the founder of Vikas Vidyalaya, had witnessed and understood the success of such institutions in other countries. In India, he had the notion of establishing a school similar to Eton and Harrow, but it would be an Indian public school that included the best of both.
