Wellington College was established in 1859. In December 1853, the 'Royal and Religious Foundation of The Wellington College' received a Royal Charter. John Shaw Jr. created the College, and Queen Victoria laid the cornerstone in 1856. On January 20, 1859, the first 76 boys, who ranged in age from eleven to fifteen, arrived. The right to eligibility was extended to the orphan offspring of deceased Royal Navy, Royal Marines, and Royal Air Force personnel in 1952. Although the College's military history remained strong for a long time, its curriculum has always attempted to prepare students for all walks of life. Since its founding, Wellington College has stayed on its stunning and sizable Berkshire location. In 1975, girls were allowed to enrol in the Sixth Form, and by 2006, the school was entirely co-ed. There are currently 1100 students enrolled at the college, 80% of whom board, some of whom are still Foundationers.
Wellington College focuses on certain core values that they try to inculcate in their students. The values are as follows:
1. Kindness
2. Courage
3. Respect
4. Integrity
5. Responsibility
