Whangarei Heads School is 30 kilometers east of Whangarei, on the lower slopes of Mt. Manaia, overlooking the entrance to Whangarei Harbour. The school was founded in 1858 and has a long history of providing excellent service to the community. It caters to a welcoming and vibrant rural and coastal community. The school is now classified as U4 and has a student body of roughly 165-175 children. It is a full primary school, which adds to its uniqueness. The school was founded in 1858 and is New Zealand's second oldest. It caters to a welcoming and vibrant rural and coastal community.  Having a school, an art shed, and a library. The school serves as a community hub, and a variety of community activities are held in our hall, Te Mangoroa. In 2008, the school celebrated its Sesquicentennial.
