Woodlands Secondary School was established in 1982 as a government co-educational school with 205 pupils and a pioneer batch of 13 personnel to serve the rising population in the Woodlands and Marsiling districts. It was initially located on the grounds of Si Ling Secondary School. The school moved to its new location at 8 Admiralty Road in 1984 and was officially inaugurated on September 20. The school has the distinction of being Singapore's northernmost school, located at a short distance from the Singapore-Johore Causeway. The school celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2012 and was awarded the Singapore Quality Class (SQC) designation. It was particularly pleased to see the addition of an indoor sports hall and a synthetic turf pitch to the school's amenities.
