Woodleigh School was established in 1856 under the name St Paul's School, initially operating from a hall located on the grounds of St. Paul's Anglican Church in Frankston. It holds the distinction of being the first school in Frankston and is recognized as one of the earliest educational institutions in the then colony of Victoria, making it the oldest co-educational school in the state. In 1970, the institution relocated to a 3.5-hectare property off Seaview Road in Frankston South, which it designated as "Minimbah," a term derived from the Bunurong Aboriginal language meaning "place of learning." Five years later, in 1975, the school acquired a former 12.5-hectare farm named "Woodleigh" situated on Golf Links Road in Langwarrin South. During this period, the Minimbah site was designated as the junior campus, while the Woodleigh site served as the senior campus. Following the acquisition of additional land at the Woodleigh site, expanding the campus to 22 hectares, the school officially adopted the name Woodleigh School in 1999.
