The historical tale of the Worksop College dates to the 19th century, was first established by Victorian educational reformer Canon Nathaniel Woodard. Prior to his passing in 1891, it was the final Woodard school that Nathanial Woodard personally inaugurated. Henry Meynell was then given control of the school and ensured that Woodard's goal would be realised. The school was formally inaugurated in September 1895. Under the leadership of Headmaster Canon Fred Shirley, the College underwent major development in the 1920s and 1930s. The College is a part of the Woodard Corporation, which also owns 23 other private schools. These schools are all connected by the Anglican ethos.
