RWTH Aachen University is a public university which was established in the year 1870 and is located in Aachen, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. There are two core areas of the university: midtown and Melaten district. The University is considered as the largest technical university in Germany.
RWTH Aachen University comprises nine faculties; Faculty of Mathematics, Computer Science and Natural Sciences, Faculty of Architecture, Faculty of Civil Engineering, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Georesources and Materials Engineering, Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology, Faculty of Arts and Humanities, School of Business and Economics, and Faculty of Medicine. The university cooperates with the Fraunhofer-Institutes situated in the Melaten district of Aachen. These institutes offer workshops, courses, and lectures for the students of RWTH Aachen; Applied Information Technology, Fraunhofer-Institute for Laser Technology, Fraunhofer-Institute for Production Technology, Fraunhofer-Institute for Molecular Biology and Applied Ecology. The university also consists of a graduate school: The Aachen Institute for advanced study in Computational Engineering Science (AICES). Research at AICES is broadly in the area of Computational engineering, solving inverse problems that find applications in mathematics, computer science and engineering, mechanical engineering and natural sciences.
