Xiamen University History
Xiamen University was the first university in China founded by a member of the overseas Chinese Diaspora In 1919. It is a public university in Xiamen, Fujian. In the 1970s, the institution's English name was changed to Xiamen University, the new English name for Amoy. It is identified as a Class A institution in the Double First Class University Plan, which is a national government initiative to educate a group of elite Chinese universities into "world-class" institutions by 2050.
