Choosing a career in medicine is one thing, becoming a doctor is another thing. However, becoming a good doctor is a totally different story. Contrary to what most people think, being a doctor involves having good medical knowledge; good lateral thinking , ability to cope under pressure, excellent time management skills. A good doctor should have personality traits and abilities like empathy; sympathy; good communication skills , honesty and integrity as examples.
The aim of this talk is to discuss the qualities of a good doctor based on features set out by medical regulatory bodies like the general medical council in the United Kingdom. Some of these personal qualities are evaluated by medical school entrance exams like the UCAT, they use certain scenarios to identify how a potential medical student acts in certain dilemmas.
