During the first Doctor Shadowing experience, you get to learn from one of the well-known doctors from the UK. Dr Ruben Canelo who qualified from Cordoba University in 1980. After completing medical and academic positions in Cordoba, he continued his surgical training in Germany and France. In 1994 he was appointed as the Lead Consultant for Hepato-Pancrato-Biliary Surgery and Transplantation at the Georg-August-University Hospital in Goettingen in Germany. Professor Canelo was lead for Research Groups in Germany and France. He was very active as a Member of the Advisory Board for the Eurotransplant for the University of Goettingen and Member of the Board for the European Liver Transplant Registry for the same University. In 2002 Professor Canelo relocated to England and was appointed as Consultant Surgeon in HPB and Transplantation for Hammersmith and St Mary's Hospitals. The hospitals are now part of the Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust and are working with Imperial College of London. Professor Canelo's main interests are Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Surgery and Renal, Pancreas and Liver Transplantation. He also undertakes vascular access for dialysis as well as general surgical procedures. Professor Canelo was awarded a Chair of Surgery in 2009 at the Catholic University of Cordoba, Argentina for the Development of an International Exchange Program for Under and Postgraduate Student. He lectures widely on both the National and International circuits. Moreover, he published multiple original papers as well as books and book chapters. He supervises Students for their Thesis and participates as Examiner for MSc Students, OSCE and London Deanery Examinations. Professor Canelo is also responsible for research activity at Imperial College London. Professor Canelo is a Fellow of the: - Royal College of Surgeons of England - American College of Surgeons - International College of Surgeons - European Board of Surgery He is also a Member of International and National Societies in Surgery and Transplantation. As well as English Professor Canelo is fluent in Italian, Spanish, French and German and would be delighted to consult with patients who speak these languages.
