About SAT, Let’s Learn about the Test.
SAT, Scholastic Aptitude Test, is an entrance exam used by most of the top Universities in the U.S. which tests student’s abilities of critical reading, mathematics, and writing. It is a standard eligibility test relied on for over 94 years. Yes, it is that old! This is probably why the majority of the Universities still use it as the basic yardstick to measure their students.
ACT is a very similar test that also measures the students’ ability in English, Math, Reading, and Science. Also, just like the SAT, they offer an optional essay too. It is a comparatively new test that has been in use since 1959.
Do colleges prefer SAT over ACT?

The correct answer is NO. All Colleges that require you to take a standardized test will accept both the tests.

How long is the SAT Exam?
It is a 4 hours long paper and pencil test consisting of 2 main segments. These segments are further divided into 4 sections. The sections are evidence-based Reading, Writing and Language, Math without a calculator, and Math with a calculator. Each segment is scored on a scale of 200-800, thus the total score ranges from 400-1600. There is no negative marking in the SAT  so students can attempt all questions. It also has an optional Essay. Yes you read that right, it is optional and yet very strongly recommended and sometimes requested by some select institutions such as all the schools under the University of California, Texas A&M University, and so on.

How long is the ACT Exam?.

It is a 3.35 hours long computer-based test consisting of 4 sections- English, Math, Science, and Writing. Each section is scored on a scale of 1-36 points and the composite score is the average of the 4 segments. Writing is evaluated separately.
Once you decide which test to take, the immediate question is how do I prepare?
Benjamin Franklin once said, “By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail.” Still, want to take chances? I’m guessing not! You will indeed be already familiar with most of the concepts that will be tested, however, every test is designed differently, and being familiar with the style of evaluation is key to acing it. It is important to work on strategies, such as time management, skim reading, the process of elimination, and so on, regularly to see an improvement in scores. The test results are valid for 5 years and students have the opportunity to re-sit the SAT any number of times although ACT restricts the number of attempts to 12.
At the end of the day, it is not about the number of times you attempt, but the score you get that matters. After completing many practice tests if you feel that your score is stagnating at a 650 or even a 750, it is time to get cracking on the best tips and strategies out there. If you want an exclusive insight on it from the experts, come join us on July 15th for a live Master class on SAT.
