Benjamin N. Duke Scholars strive to excel academically and to serve as leaders of civic engagement initiatives both on and off-campus. They work collaboratively to build creative partnerships with communities in the Carolinas and beyond. They endeavor to be globally minded and locally grounded while acting as ambassadors representing the Carolinas and Duke University. They engage in critical introspection regarding their ideas and experiences in order to better understand the world and improve our work.
Eligibility Criteria/ Scholarship Guidelines
Ten Benjamin N. Duke Leadership Awards are given annually to North and South Carolina students demonstrating an exceptional academic record, strong leadership, and an affinity for service to their community.
Finalists are selected based on the individual criteria for each scholarship. Finalists for the Alumni, A.B. Duke, B.N. Duke, Reginaldo Howard, and Robertson, University, and Trinity scholarships will be invited to participate in a four-day campus visit at the end of March that will include an interview and opportunities to meet with faculty and current scholars. Those selected as finalists will be notified early March by email. Other scholarships may include a phone or Skype interview as part of the finalist process.
