For many years, awards, as specified in The Hodson Trust instrument, have been made by the Trust to four Maryland institutions of higher learning: Hood College, The Johns Hopkins University, St. John's College and Washington College. In acceptance of their relationship to the Hodson Trust, the four institutions have founded scholarships for children of former employees of Beneficial Corporation and its subsidiaries.
Eligibility Criteria/ Scholarship Guidelines
Applications of children of former full-time beneficial employees, with two or more years of service with Beneficial Corporation and its subsidiaries immediately prior to June 1998 are given careful consideration for these scholarships. The selection of the candidates and other conditions of enrollment are totally under the jurisdiction of the individual college or university.
How to Apply
If your child is interested in attending any of these institutions and you meet the criteria outlined above, a letter requesting an application for admission and consideration for a scholarship should be submitted to the college or university as early as possible during the first half of the senior year in secondary school.
The applicant must include a notarized statement from his or her parent indicating such a parent's relationship to the applicant, as well as such parent's employment history with Beneficial prior to June 1998. In the event of the death of the beneficial parent, a notarized statement of the applicant will suffice.
